What are Affirmations, and how do they actually work?
Every word, thought, and belief we repeat to ourselves is an Affirmation. The Reticular Activating System in our brain makes these Affirmations a part of our identity and how we see ourselves and perceive the world around us. The more we think or speak of something, the more ingrained it becomes in our belief system. Imagine your brain as a computer, and your thoughts, words, and beliefs as the "downloads", which together becomes your operating system. Affirmations are a way to reprogram your computer so you operate from a more healthy and positive place that is aligned with your core truth.
Our unconscious mind takes in 40 million bits of information every second, but thanks to a filtering process in the brain, we only perceive 5 – 9 bits per second. These bits are our perception of reality. The unconscious mind contains our past experiences and memories, which means we may be holding onto negative beliefs from our past; beliefs that may no longer be serving us purpose. The good thing is, we can actually work on reprogramming our unconscious mind by using the power of words.
The unconscious mind doesn't know the difference between past and future, it reacts and responds only in the present moment, and what it perceives as the truth. So by feeding your conscious and unconscious mind healthy words, thoughts, and beliefs, you can change your mindset. As Wayne Dyer says, change your thoughts, change your life. This is the true power of Affirmations.
It may feel unnatural at first to use statements that don't feel true, because they may not be a part of your core belief system; however, part of the process of reprogramming your unconscious mind is doing something that feels uncomfortable at first in order to create real and lasting change. On the other side of our resistance, is our greatness.
You can use Affirmations any time, but I recommend setting time aside each day to use these power statements while engaging in a Meditation practice so your body and mind are relaxed and at ease. When your body and mind are relaxed, your unconsciousness absorbs information easier and deeper. When you begin using Affirmations as part of your daily routine, your brain will work to download these words as your new truth.
Many people, including athletes and entrepreneurs, understand the power of Affirmations and use them to manifest goals and successful outcomes into their physical reality. In fact, I used them before my first book, Heart Is Where The Home Is, became a bestseller. I wrote Affirmation statements in my journal, I repeated them often, and I believed in them without doubt. One year later, almost to the day, my book became a three-times bestseller. That's the beauty of Affirmations: they become true when you begin to believe in them. Belief is the root of all creation. What you believe, you can become.
I have shared with you some Affirmations for Self love, Health, and Wealth. When using Affirmations while practising Meditation, I suggest placing one hand on your heart - your space of love and compassion - and the other hand on your abdomen - your space of power and identify.
Begin today to build a new belief system, one that feels healthy and empowering, and aligns with the truth of your heart and soul.

What are Chakras and how can you keep them in a healthy and balanced state?
There are seven main chakras in the body, starting from the base of your spine through to the crown of your head. To visualize a chakra in the body, imagine a swirling wheel of energy where matter and consciousness meet. This invisible healing energy, called Prana, is vital life force energy which keeps you vibrant, healthy, and alive.
These swirling wheels of energy correspond to massive nerve centers and major organs in the body, as well as our emotional, psychological, and spiritual states of being. To keep our chakras balanced and healthy, it’s essential that our seven main chakras stay open, aligned, and fluid. When blockages occur, the energy flows are restricted and can cause emotional disruptions, as well as illness or dis-ease.
Since the mind, body, soul, and spirit are intimately connected, awareness of an imbalance in one area can help bring all the chakras back into balance.
First Chakra: (red) The Root Chakra is your sense of stability and security, and houses your basic survival needs. It encompasses the first three vertebrae, the bladder, and the colon. When this chakra is open, you feel safe, secure, and fearless. Imbalances include feeling like you're stuck and can't move forward in life. You may also feel ungrounded and lack inspiration and motivation. Physical symptoms include lower-back pain, sciatica, digestive issues, water retention, and problems with your hips, legs, and feet.
Second Chakra: (orange) The Sacral Chakra is our creativity and sexual center. It is located above the pubic bone, below the navel, and is responsible for our creative and artistic expressions. If the sacral chakra becomes unbalanced you may feel lethargic and extremely low in energy. You may even experience a feeling of loneliness and mild depression. Physical symptoms include, kidney problems and urinary tract infections, chronic lower back pain, sexual disorders, infertility, irregular menstrual cycles, and issues with the intestines, spleen, and gallbladder.
Third Chakra: (yellow) The Solar Plexus means lustrous gem and it’s the area from the navel to the breastbone. The third chakra is our source of personal power, self-esteem, and overall sense of confidence. If the solar plexus chakra becomes unbalanced, you may often feel stressed, anxious, and powerless to gain control, leaving you feeling emotionally and mentally exhausted. You may also experience a lack of concentration, poor memory, insomnia, as well as feeling fearful and uncentered for no apparent reason. Physical symptoms include digestive and intestinal disorders, food allergies, poor metabolism, eczema, and other stress-related skin conditions such as hives.
Fourth Chakra: (green) The Heart Chakra is the connection between Matter and Spirit and is located at the heart center. It serves as a bridge between our body, mind, emotions, and spirit. The heart chakra is our source of love and connection. If the heart chakra becomes unbalanced, you may feel a sense of detachment from the world and from those around you. You may lose sight of love, empathy, and compassion and have feelings of hopelessness and distrust. You may also find that you are not able to easily forgive yourself, or others, and you tend to hold grudges for long periods of time. Physical symptoms include asthma and respiratory problems, breast problems, as well as upper-back and upper-arm pain, and issues with your shoulders.
Fifth Chakra: (blue) The Throat Chakra is located in the throat area. This is our source of verbal expression and communication and offers us the ability to speak our highest truth. The fifth chakra includes the neck, thyroid, jaw, mouth, and tongue. If this Chakra is blocked you may experience fear, anxiety, and have poor communication and coping skills. Physical symptoms include sinus issues, sore throat, TMJ, as well as thyroid problems and ailments of the esophagus and tonsils.
Sixth Chakra: (indigo) The Third Eye Chakra is located in between the eyebrows and is referred to as our centre of intuition. If the third eye chakra becomes unbalanced, you may feel overwhelmed by your own thoughts and unable to process them effectively. Your judgment may also be clouded causing you to make poor or rash decisions. Physical symptoms include eye and ear problems, headaches and migraines, nightmares, and neurological disorders.
Seventh Chakra: (purple or white) The Crown Chakra is located at the crown (top) of the head. This is the chakra of enlightenment and spiritual connection to our higher selves, to others, and ultimately, to the divine Universe. If your crown chakra isn't balanced you may experience feelings of confusion, being mentally disconnected, and even depression. Physical symptoms include light sensitivity, headaches, chronic fatigue, and neurological disorders. The crown chakra affects the health of our brains and therefore our entire mental, physical, and spiritual well-being.
Here are six simple ways to unblock and balance your Chakras so you keep them healthy and aligned:
Perform an energetic body scan
One of the best ways to recognize if you have any blockages in your chakra system is to perform an energetic body scan. To do this lay still in a quiet and comfortable position and in an area where you won't be distracted by external elements. Start by placing your hand on your crown chakra and hold your hand there for a few moments. Connect to the energy you feel in that area (it may be a very subtle sensation of energy) and then tune into the intuition of your body and ask yourself, is this chakra open, or is it closed? Listen for your answer.
Once you have received your answer, move onto the next chakra. If you did not hear an answer, often times this may be an indication that there is an imbalance in that chakra. You can always go back and check again. Be sure to make a mental note of which chakras are blocked so you can begin to work on them with more directed focus and intention.
Use energy stones and crystals
Many people use energy stones/crystals to help balance and align the chakras. Each stone holds a unique energy frequency that when used on a particular chakra, it will resonate with the vibration of the chakra and work to balance it out. Energy crystals have been used for centuries to help with energy healing and spiritual health and wellness.
Place the stone on the chakra, ideally during a Meditation practice or when sitting quietly and relaxing, and allow the energy of the stone to connect with your own energy. Use your intuition to know and to, feel, when the Chakra has become more in balance and in harmony with itself.

Spend time in nature
Spending time outdoors is a great way to feel more connected to the earth and it allows you to absorb the healing benefits of Mother Nature more deeply. It also helps to ground your energy and bring more peace and calm into your life. By tuning into elements of nature that have the same resonance as a particular chakra we can not only balance them, but we can also remove blockages, enhance our intuition, boost our immunity, as well as re-charge our mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual state.
Spend time in places such as a peaceful forest, beautiful gardens, by healing waters, in grassy fields, laying on your back looking up at the big blue sky, or take an evening stroll under the moon. And don't forget to embrace the morning sunrise if you can! All the wonderful colours and healing powers of nature will help to bring a better balance to your chakra system. By bringing nature into our lives we can also enhance our self-awareness, our sense of gratitude for life itself, and we can elevate our spiritual growth. Be at one with nature.
You can use positive words and Affirmations to help balance your chakras and place them back into harmony. Our thoughts and beliefs can influence the flow of life force energy through the various energy centers. When your life force is flowing freely through these energy centers, it enhances your physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health. When things are open, you will feel a sense of "lightness" and freedom within.
To use Affirmations to clear and align your chakras, place your hand over each one and repeat the Affirmations shared below. Continue to repeat the Affirmation until you feel a slight shift in your energy. Breath deeply during this process and speak the words slowly and with pure intent in order for you to absorb them fully and completely.
The following Affirmations coincide with each Chakra:
I am fillеd with humility. I am enough as I am.
I am radiant, beautiful, and strong. I enjoy a healthy and passionate life.
Solar Plexus Chakra
I accept that I have strengths, and I accept that I have weaknesses.
I give and receive love fully and unconditionally, and without conditions.
My thoughts are positive, and I always express myself truthfully and openly.
Third Eye Chakra
I am wise, and I understand the true meaning оf life’s situations.
I am complete and at one with the divine energy of the ever-giving Universe.
The word 'gratitude' is derived from the Latin word gratia, which can mean grace or gratefulness. When we consciously express gratitude the Universe automatically works to bring about more of the feeling that we are expressing. As The Law of Attraction states, like attracts like, and ultimately, our thoughts and actions become our truest reality. Therefor, using gratitude to balance and align our chakras is done by speaking positive and healing words of gratitude while we connect to each chakra.
To do so, hold your hand over each particular Chakra and express something you are grateful for, be sure to speak right from the heart centre. Sink into the energy and vibration of your words so that they are felt on the deepest level possible. After expressing gratitude, breath in fully, and then release all the way out. Surrender to whatever emotions may arise during this time. All is what it needs to be.
Use Essential Oils
Essential Oils have many healing powers and some of their healing benefits are meant to help unblock and balance your chakra system. To use the oils you can either diffuse them or place a drop on each chakra, be mindful of the Third Eye Chakra when applying the oil so it doesn't end up in your eyes. Also be sure that the oil is suggested to apply on skin before use so that you avoid any skin irritations or reactions.
As you use the oils, envision the colour of each chakra spinning in a clockwise motion and absorbing into your body and energy aura. Continue visualizing the coloured wheel until you intuitively feel a sense of clearing. Not only are the properties of the oils super healing, but the scents are divine and provide extra stimulate to your senses.

Are you experiencing a shift in your soul? Is something awakening within you, making you question everything, including yourself? Are you starting to remember the truth of who you really are, but feel confused, lost, and alone?
What you may be experiencing is a Spiritual Awakening. Your soul is wanting to transcend beyond itself and transition into the next level of evolution. This is a good thing, but it can also be "scary" and unsettling when you don't know what is happening.
Spiritual growth is a process and it comes in waves. At times your soul may be in "rest mode", yearning peace and quiet, reflection of sorts. At other times it may feel like you are surging forward at high speed and there's no way to stop or slow down. When you experience deep transformation and inner growth, there will be moments of pain and "grief" as you let go of who you thought you were to become who you're meant to be.
I'm sharing with you Six Signs of a Spiritual Awakening so you can better navigate your journey and have a deeper understanding of the process of Soul Evolution.
Your long-held beliefs begin to change
You may begin to notice that some of the beliefs you held onto so tightly begin to change. They no longer resonate with your truth. You may even question how you believed certain things in the first place. Regardless, what was once true for you, is no longer true.
Throughout our lives, we tend to unconsciously take on the beliefs and opinions of others; some are even ingrained in us from birth. When your soul awakens, however, it starts to shed all the beliefs that don't align with who you really are, and what you truly desire.
This is a beautiful time to empower yourself by choosing to only allow into your life what feels good and right for you, and giving yourself permission to release what no longer serves you. Simply said, take what you need, and leave the rest. Free your own mind.
"You have the power in the present moment to change limiting beliefs and consciously plant the seeds for the future of your choosing. As you change your mind, you change your experience."
- Serge King
There’s an "emptiness" inside of you that you can’t seem to fill
Do you have a deep sense of longing? A feeling that there is more to life and more to who you are, but can’t put your finger on what that "something" is? Are you finding that what once brought you joy and fulfillment, no longer fills you?
I remember when I experienced my Spiritual Awakening, I had this deep inner knowing that there was more to who I was, and felt I was meant to be of service to others; I just didn't know in what capacity. I didn't know what that looked like for me. This left me feeling ungrounded and uncertain, having a knowing, but not knowing. Eventually I was lead down the path of Reiki Energy Healing, and I soon began helping others on their own healing and spiritual journey.
That "void" you may be feeling is your soul remembering what you came here to do, and it's restless and ready to begin a life of helping others, in whatever way that ends up looking for you. It's important to have patience during this process and refrain from trying to force things, as you may miss what you're being pulled toward. I suggest just observing these feelings at first and being curious about what you are drawn to, and what interests you. In time, the truth will reveal itself, as it always does. Trust the process.
“As we lose ourselves in the service of others we discover our own lives and our own happiness."
- Dieter F. Uchtdorf
You receive repeated messages or signs
When your soul awakens, it begins to see things it didn't notice before, and as you awaken to yourself, you also awaken to the beauty and synchronicities of the Universe. This may come in the way of seeing the same time on the clock throughout the day, or license plates or street signs that seem to hold some sort of significance. Or maybe a friend mentions something to you and suddenly other people are talking about the same thing.
Could all these signs and messages be random coincidences? Possibly, but chances are they are invitations and opportunities for you to explore things a little deeper. This doesn't mean you need to know what every sign and message means, some things we're just not meant to know or figure out, but what it does mean, is that the Universe is asking you to pay attention. These signs are the soul’s wisdom bringing you closer to your own truth.
"Synchronicity is choreographed by a great, pervasive intelligence that lies at the heart of nature, and is manifest in each of us through intuitive knowledge."
- Deepak Chopra
The desire to stop and reflect
When we experience an awakening, we often feel the pull to retreat into oneself, to stop and reflect on our lives, our relationships, and what's important to us. The truth is, we spend a lot of our lives going, moving, doing, but rarely do we stop and just be. We don't allow ourselves moments of silence to go into the depths of our own soul and connect to our ever present spirit.
A Spiritual Awakening almost "pushes" you back into self, so you can reflect on what is working for you and what isn't. It's a time to get real and honest with yourself so you can make any necessary changes that you have been avoiding making. It doesn't mean you need make bold and drastic changes, it means this is the time to gently and intuitively let go of what no longer resonates and aligns with the essence of who you are. It means taking small steps towards the changes you desire.
Stopping and reflecting also helps us connect to repressed emotions and memories within our unconsciousness so we can heal old wounds and love all the parts of us that are asking to be seen and felt. Feeling is healing. Self reflection doesn’t judge, blame, or criticize, it simply holds space for oneself from a compassionate, caring, and gentle place.
"The journey into self-love and self-acceptance must begin with self-examination…until you take the journey of self-reflection, it is almost impossible to grow or learn in life.”
- Iyanla Vanzant
A transformation of Ego
The ego is created in the mind, by the mind, however, the thoughts and beliefs we have about ourselves are often far from the truth of who we really are, at the very core of our essence. Our ego likes to create conceptualized versions of who and what we imagine ourselves to be so, when you experience a Spiritual Awakening, you also experience an awakening of the soul, and the ego.
This awakening can "force" us to look at all the parts of our constructed identity, the good, the bad, and the ugly, so we can recognize, and then release versions of ourselves that no longer align with our soul's truth. This can be a pretty intense and painful process, yet at the same time, it's one of the most beautiful transformations you will ever go through. As you "un-become," you become your true authentic self, beyond the masks and illusion of the ego.
“Our job, as souls on this mortal journey, is to shift the seat of our identity from the ego to the Self. That’s it.”
- Steven Pressfield
A sense of Oneness with the world
Oneness is an experience that transcends the mind. When we experience the feeling of oneness, we feel a deep and emotional connection with everything, and everyone around us.
I recall a time when I was at a beach and I was in the water floating on my back. My ears were emerged in the water and I could hear the beating of my heart, and the depths of my breath. I looked up at the vast blue sky above me and I had this surreal and profound feeling of being nothing, yet being everything at the same time. It evoked emotions and wisdom within me that I'll never soon forget. It was in that very moment I understood that we are all connected, we are all one, and that nothing, and no one can exist without the other.
This awareness helped me see others in a different perspective as well. I could no longer judge the path of another because if I judged someone else, in truth, I was judging myself. The feeling of oneness also deepens our connection with nature and animals, in fact, we begin to see most things in a new light, with a new sense of love and appreciation. It's such a wonderful gift to receive.
Have you ever experienced those moments, perhaps when you're driving in a car on a warm sunny day, and you suddenly get this sense that everything is okay, everything is perfect, just as it is. It's a very fleeting and rare moment, but that's the feeling of oneness, that's the ultimate connection you're feeling to the Universe and the unseen energy that exists all around you. Although the feeling leaves as quick as it came, it's an experience that remains within you, forever.
"Living a spiritual life requires a change of heart, a conversion. Such a conversion may be marked by a sudden inner change, or it can take place through a long, quiet process of transformation. But it always involves an inner experience of oneness."
- Henri Nouwen
