"Align your journey with your truth. The road becomes resistant when it’s not aligned with your heart." Soul Alive Barrie
When we aren't following the truth of our hearts, and showing up as our authentic self at its very essence, resistance on our path soon shows up. When we go against what our heart truly desires, inner conflict arises, and discontentment, unhappiness and anxiety reveals its face.
Our truth is our gift. It's the very thing that makes us who we are, but by hiding our truth, we hide parts of ourselves that want to shine and be seen. For the sake of our soul, it's "spiritually important" to acknowledge every part of who we are. Every layer of our being.
When we are doing things that don't make us happy and putting our thoughts and energy into those things, the frequency we put out doesn't align with what we love and what we desire, it doesn't align with our truth and core values.
If we put out this 'unaligned frequency', not only we will vibrate back what we don't love, others will unconsciously feel the inauthentic vibration we are emitting. This is especially important if you are a person of business. If what you are trying to sell, market or manifest is something that doesn't align with your core values and your truth, potential clients will sense from you a lack of genuine enthusiasm and passion. They won't feel the love for what you're doing.
By not aligning our journey with our truth, we often end up in unhappy relationships, friendships that feel toxic and unfulfilling, and jobs and careers we dread going to every day. We remain on this 'resistant path' until our heart and our soul have no other option but to shift into alignment with our truth. While we need all the things that happen "for us" for the purpose of growth and self development, it's not soulfully healthy to remain in situations and environments where our truth is not being heard, seen, and acknowledged.
You can't ignore who you truly are because your truth after all, is You. It's the essence of all the things that were created to make you exactly who you are, in all your grace and glory.
How do we align our journey with our truth?
“To know how to choose a path with heart is to learn how to follow intuitive feeling. Logic can tell you superficially where a path might lead to, but it cannot judge whether your heart will be in it.”
~ Jean Shinoda Bolen
I recently had the pleasure of speaking with the wonderful Jennifer Klementti about her love for Essential Oils, her favorite blends and their many different uses.
What inspired you to enter the world of essential oils Jennifer?
This past summer I decided to enroll with dōTERRA with a kit of the top ten oils and a diffuser. I had already witnessed the incredible impact of On Guard for supporting my immune function, and I was excited to start using the other oils as well. Little did I know then that these beautiful oils would have such a profound impact on my emotional, physical and spiritual health. Within a couple of weeks of using the oils, I knew that I wanted to learn more and that I wanted to share these oils with my family and friends. There are a few oils that had such an immediate impact on my health including Frankincense, Lavender, Deep Blue which is a blend for joint and muscle pain, and Digest Zen which supports digestive health. I was amazed at how quickly the oils worked, and I love that they are so simple to use and I knew that I had to share them. I have always loved essential oils and I have used various oil brands over the past twenty years. I regularly used Rose and Chamomile oil in my skin care routine, Patchouli was a longtime favorite as well. When I experienced the power of Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade oils, I was immediately intrigued and now a bit obsessed about learning all that I can about essential oils.
Does your family use the oils as well?
My husband, my daughter and I use the oils on a daily basis. We have diffusers in our bedrooms and diffuse either a blend of Lavender and Cedarwood or our current favorite Serenity. I made an On Guard roller bottle blend for my daughter so she could easily roll it on her feet in the mornings throughout the fall and winter cold and flu season. It’s important to always dilute essential oils with a carrier oil such as coconut oil, and to follow dilution guidelines based on age. This past school year was the first year that neither of us were sick! Amazing!! We also love to experiment with different diffuser blends in our home as well. So that’s a lot of fun creating our own combinations to diffuse.
Can the oils be used for other purposes then in a diffuser?
The oils can be used aromatically, topically and internally*. I love to have a couple drops of lemon in my water every morning as a refreshing and healthy boost to start my day. In the afternoon, I have a few drops of Slim & Sassy in my water; it's is a metabolic blend to help boost your metabolism and help manage hunger cravings. My husband and I both love to cook, and we use the oils quite often in our cooking. My absolute favorite way to use essential oils is topically. Whenever using essential oils topically, it is always important to follow dilution guidelines. I always have 5-6 different roller bottle blends in my purse at all times. Uplifting blends, blends to alleviate stress and anxiety as well as relaxing and calming blends. My current favorite though, is Whisper which is the blend for women. This oil blend combines with the individual’s chemistry to create a beautiful personal fragrance. I have tested this and it’s true! It definitely smells different on different women. Honestly, sometimes I wonder how I lived before without all these amazing oils, because I use them so much now throughout my daily routine.
*Only use Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade oils internally and follow safety instructions on which oils are safe for internal use. Only use glass or stainless steel. Never use a plastic glass or water bottle
What is your favorite oil and why?
This is a tough question. I have many oils that I absolutely love! I would have to say that my favorite oil is Frankincense. Frankincense oil is often called the “king of oils”; it promotes feelings of peace and overall wellness. Frankincense has extraordinary health benefits. Frankincense has soothing and beautifying properties on the skin and can help reduce the appearance of imperfections. Frankincense can also help relieve inflammation and pain. I often like to use a combination of Frankincense and Lavender diluted with fractionated coconut oil to sooth a sore back, or my knees after a day of skiing or hiking. At the end of each day, I also put Frankincense and Lavender on the bottom of my feet before bedtime. Frankincense is a very grounding and calming scent, and I find that it helps me to unwind and naturally helps me fall asleep.
My favorite roller blend is 12 drops Frankincense, 8 drops wild orange and 2 drops peppermint. I have given this roller blend recipe to pretty much everyone I know! Frankincense, the oil of truth, has profound psychological and spiritual benefits, long recognized by religious and spiritual traditions*. Frankincense can help access a deeper level of insight and creativity. Wild Orange, the oil of abundance, can foster creativity and support a positive mood*. Peppermint, the oil of a buoyant heart, brings joy to the heart and soul and invigorates the body, mind and spirit.*

Can the oils be used for certain health ailments as well?
Essential oils can be used as a natural support for many health ailments. We use essential oils to support our overall health and wellness. Oregano, On Guard, Easy Air which is a respiratory blend are all great oils to support your health when under the weather with a cold or flu. Essential oils can also help naturally support a variety of common health ailments. I always refer to my resource books, Modern Essentials and The Essential Life, to research what oils are best for which ailments and how to use them.
Do you find the oils have had an effect not only your health but your lifestyle as well?
Definitely! Since I started using essential oils, I have seen a profound effect on my health and also my lifestyle. For many years I have strived to live an environmentally friendly lifestyle also choosing local and organic when it is available and in my price range. We have replaced all of the commercial cleaners in our home with our own DIY homemade all natural cleaners using essential oils. Even though I was buying the “Green” and “Natural” household cleaners, when I make my own at home, I know exactly what the ingredients are. This is so simple, effective and inexpensive. I also use many of the dōTERRA natural spa and personal care products because I know that they are not filled with toxic chemicals that are found in most commercial personal care products that are available today. This is highly important to me, and has been for many years. I have used vegan organic skin care for over 10 years. Our skin is our largest organ; and there’s lots of information available today about the toxic chemicals are in many personal care products. My best advice is to do your research. The other ways that the oils impact my lifestyle, is that I am in love with how the oils can impact mood and emotions. This is something that truly fascinates me and that I am keenly interested in learning more about essential oils and memory, emotions and spirituality.
If you were to give one "oil tip" and a few words of inspiration, what would they be?
My best oil tip is to find your tribe. When you enroll with a wellness advocate you will be joining a community of essential oil users. A great wellness advocate will offer continuing support and education to help you safely learn how to use your essential oils. I also highly recommend investing in a good resource book such as Modern Essentials, The Essential Life and for those interested in learning about essential oils and emotions I recommend Emotions and Essential Oils, A Modern Resource for Healing. Having a great book as a resource is a definite must for anyone looking to incorporate essential oils into their daily self-care routine.
Let's talk a bit about you Jennifer. I see your inspirational and positive posts and I love it. So tell me...what is your why? What gets you jumping out of bed every day?
Thank you Vanessa! I am a creative entrepreneur. An artist at heart. I love creating and sharing content on my social media and my blog. I thrive on being creative every single day. If my posts inspire or uplift others, that makes me truly happy. I want to live my most authentic life, and if I can share that and inspire others, then it is a dream come true. I also love helping people find natural solutions to support their health. If I can help people make small changes in their self care routine that will make big changes in their physical, emotional, spiritual and even financial health, this is what gets me out of bed everyday. Truly, I want to be able to give back in a meaningful way.
“We each have the innate ability to heal ourselves. To empower ourselves with natural solutions, instead of succumbing to life-altering chemicals. There's a time and place for pharmaceuticals, but it shouldn't be the first answer, nor the only form of treatment.”

Are you annoyed by the influx of direct sales people who seem to have surfaced within the last several years?
If so, why is that?
I'm not a direct sales representative, but I do respect their pursuit. Being self-employed and owning two successful businesses myself, I respect those who are trying to achieve the pleasures that sweet freedom brings. I admire those who have the courage to take the risk all in hopes of the gain. They are tired of working for someone else, they crave independence, and most importantly, they want to be home with their families; who wouldn't want to work from the comfort of their own home with endless cups of coffee at arms reach?
I'm going to share a different perspective that may change how you view direct sales companies.
By bringing the experience to your doorstep and offering products that can't be found anywhere else, the more than 10,000 direct sales companies worldwide remove the task of having to leave your home to shop. Many direct sales representatives are knowledgeable about the products they sell and have invested their time, money and energy to add value to the services they're providing their customers.
So perhaps instead of having an emotional attachment and being triggered by what you see or hear from direct sales reps, try listening and observing without judgement; it doesn't have to be viewed with any 'negative' label or limiting belief. It's a matter of someone working hard on their success in order to make a living on their own terms.
I'm sure you have heard a story or two regarding shady direct sales companies and their practices, but the same can be said in regards to other so-called reputable businesses or companies. Unfortunately, it's a fact of life.
Everyone is as busy as they want to be when it comes to their success, and a career in direct sales is an opportunity for those who want to work from home and be there for their families. The details and job description may be different than yours, but the intention is the same. To make a living and to be happy while doing so.
"Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work."
~ Thomas Edison
Many direct sales reps have reported an increase in their self esteem and self confidence, and have seen improvement in their professional and sales skills. It is also a huge bonus that their lives become more flexible by having the ability to set their own schedule.
Now what can be a bit of an annoyance is those Facebook friend requests with an instant invite or add to a group. Most people I have talked to about this appreciate a friendly message first to ask the person about themselves and their business. It's important to build relationships and connect with people on a personal level, in any business, rather than sending an immediate 'cold' invite asking you to "like" a business page when you may not know anything about the company. So reaching out to people is the best and most effective way to connect with others.
At the end of the day, we all pretty much live in survival mode, trying to provide for our families and striving to make ends meet in a way that is most pleasurable and beneficial to our mental, emotional, physical and spiritual health.
We are all doing our best with what we know, and we're doing what we do best.
So be mindful of being triggered by all the direct sales people you meet or the posts you see; your reaction is always a reflection of your inner world. If something effects your energy, there might be something below the surface that needs to be addressed.
Remaining as an observer in the game of life will bring you inner freedom and peace. Observe without judgment and keep your focus on creating your own happiness and success.
"What we really want to do is what we are really meant to do. When we do what we are meant to do, money comes to us, doors open for us, we feel useful, and the work we do feels like play to us."
~ Julia Cameron
The body is a complex system far beyond our understanding.
Designed to beautifully repair and heal and to feel and express, it is the perfect balance of outward and inner healing, expression, and growth and yet we can get caught perceiving the body with simplicity and tunnel vision at times.
Humans are able to acknowledge that animals are energy beings, picking up on the energy of their herd and yet so often we do not perceive ourselves as energy beings to its full depth. We may be able to recognize sensing when someone is having a bad day, but we write it off as reading his or her body language or tone of voice. All surface type observations, but the truth is you were picking up on their energy. In fact if you were in tune coming into the room, you likely picked up on it before they even said a word.
Consider, where do these energies go? Are they held anywhere? Are they floating around us, within us? Our lack of understanding and lack of inquisition leaves us hovering on the surface; it is with inquisition that we achieve depth of understanding, which can lead to depth of healing.
It is my hope to introduce a deeper connection and understanding between you and your body’s abilities. It is then that we reach the foundation of the body and soul, where full body healing can take place.
Healing from the inside out
I often get asked, “Why can’t I heal.”
I believe with all of my heart that anyone can heal, when they are ready. The most unaddressed and neglected part of healing is the healing of our emotional wounds.
The number one debate that occurs at the beginning of exploring my client’s symptoms and their emotional triggers is what came first, the chicken or the egg? The truth is, everyone’s story is different, but here is what I do know, everything is cause and effect. In other words, if you cannot sleep at night, there is no such thing as “I just can’t sleep”; we need to connect with the body and go a little bit deeper. There is either an emotional or physical imbalance and there is no supplement or pharmaceutical that can cure “I just can’t sleep.” You deserve more self-connection, self-love and self-analysis than that.
An example of this is I had a client come to me who was suffering from Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Fibromyalgia. She was a perfect example of doing all the 'right' things and not seeing progress. Taking all the supplements and eating the cleanest and greenest of foods was providing only some relief.
As we dove in deeper in session one week, we uncovered that in her past marriage her husband would wake her in the night, was physically and sexually abusive and if she did not co-operate, he would abuse their children. Studies are now showing that memories can be held within the nucleus of the cell. In my client’s case, interestingly her pains radiated only through her pubic bone and legs. Cellular memories of physical abuse were now manifesting themselves and became a contributing factor to her Fibromyalgia pain. We also discovered that she wasn’t sleeping at night because she had been programmed in the unconscious mind that it was unsafe, leaving her sleepless, weak and in a state of chronic fatigue.
This greatly changed our healing program for her and we went on to focus on healing these deep wounds, developing practices and creating environments where safety was felt in conjunction with supporting the physical body in healing.
The point is we have to address the physical and emotional bodies in order to heal. Focusing on the chicken or the egg coming first is simply a distraction by the protective ego from doing the work that needs to be done.
Understanding our symptoms
The symptoms of our body are often looked upon as the enemy, or are quickly dismissed, as “ah, it’s just my old body.” The truth is these are little messengers coming from the body expressing an imbalance and are an invitation to rise to the occasion to support your body in healing. The trouble is society has trained us to believe that symptoms are “normal”, aging isn’t supposed to be pretty or pain free and there is nothing you can do about it, not true.
The language of our body feels complex, it feels confusing and we often don’t feel qualified enough to figure it out, but there is no better person in the driver’s seat than you. No one can feel, hear or see your symptoms more clearly than you. The trick is to seek out guidance, listen closer and be willing to uncover the messages from your body.
A fabulous book that I draw on daily in my practice is “Messages From The Body” by Michael J. Lincoln. This fabulous book dives into the emotional connection behind your physical ailment. It is the most specific and accurate book I have found to date. As an example you could look up “left lower back pain”, most books of this nature would only indicate “back pain”.
In my practice I teach my clients how to love and trust their guts by healing digestive and emotional imbalances. Below are small excerpts as seen in the book of some of the top physical symptoms I see and their underlying emotional connection from the book by Michael J. Lincoln.
Something in their current situation is generating a gripping fear and as yet undigested ideas, along with a sense of responsibility-overload and the associated resentment…”
“Holding on.” They are not letting go of something or someone, out of resistance to changes. They are hanging on to the past for fear that if they let go, something awful will happen. They feel like they are carrying a heavy load on their shoulders, an overload of responsibility. They want to share the load, but they are afraid to ask…”
“No Dumping.” They have a fear of letting go of the past. They have a rigid, cautious and controlling approach to life, in which they are deeply afraid to let go of.
“Control freak.” They are hell bent to stay in control of every situation they encounter. “They are totally resistant to any form of delegation or release of the throttle in any situation.”
There are times where the emotional connection doesn’t resonate, and that is just fine, but we have to explore and consider all contributing factors.
Another book I draw on is Constant Cravings by Doreen Virtue. A delightful read with insights into the emotional connection behind cravings for certain foods. Let’s explore a few:
Toast with peanut butter
“Tired of not having enough fun. Fed-up with always putting self last.”
Chips: (potato or corn)
“You feel stressed or anxious, and you want to ease your worry. Also, a desire for validation.”
“Energy drain from engaging in activities that are meaningless or intimidating to you. Burnout, resentment, or disappointment with your job.”
These are also complimented with affirmations to help redirect the wandering mind.
While there can be emotional connections behind our cravings, there can also be a physical nutrient deficiency causing the body to crave certain foods. Chocolate for instance is a source of magnesium. According to Health Canada over 40% of Canadians are under consuming their magnesium and the number continues to rise. A chocolate craving can indicate that the body is requiring more magnesium. Refer to this chart to bring clarity to your cravings.
Reintegration of self
The symptoms of our body are truly the key to deeper connection within ourselves. Receiving these symptoms as messages from the body with gratitude changes our relationship with our bodies drastically. You create a sense of whole, as you re-integrate the pieces of yourself that have been ignored or forgotten. A sense of deep connection is established that allows you to leave the powerless victim state, stepping into the empowered soul that you are.
It is time that we rally with our bodies, hear, acknowledge and take action to heal from the inside out. We can do this by addressing the whole and listening to the messages from our bodies.

I know you probably think you don't have an ego but the truth is, everyone does.
Your ego is a part of who you are and, when it is in balance, it can be a good thing.
Our ego drives our desire to look good, professional, presentable. Without it, we simply wouldn't care. It can drive us to success and to achieve what we want in life. It helps build our confidence and reminds us that we are good enough, and that we are amazing!
Ego also inspires a leader’s ability to take charge and to take initiative.
I'm sure you've heard yourself say, "This isn't my ego talking here but..." That's an unconscious understanding that an ego exists within you.
But when our egos aren't in balance, it can cause us to be insecure, judgmental, and unforgiving.
How do you know when your ego isn't in balance?
So how do you balance your ego to a healthy state?
Your ego is a key to your self development and self awareness so it's important to ensure that it is healthy and balanced. When we release control and any denial of who we are, it offers an interesting and new feeling of freedom. You give light to what's within you. We can't change what we don't acknowledge and if you want to work on balancing your ego, first understand your ego exists.
Acknowledgment and responsibility create change.
"Try to understand the ego. Analyze it, dissect it, watch it, observe it, from as many angles as possible. And don't be in a hurry to sacrifice it, otherwise the greatest egoist is born: the person who thinks he is humble, the person who thinks that he has no ego."
Infertility can be caused by a number of health conditions ranging from endometriosis, polycystic ovarian syndrome, low sperm count, hormone and cervical issues, as well as other conditions, known and unknown. In fact, a cause of infertility cannot be found in approximately 20% of all cases.
I am a firm believer that stress can cause a magnitude of health issues, but can it cause infertility issues? I certainly believe so. The internal response of infertility can cause additional stress on our mental, emotional and physical health. When we experience copious amounts of stress, our coritsol levels are affected, which can wreck havoc on our hormones levels, thus throwing our bodies off balance.
High amounts of stress can also raise cortisol levels at night, which can cause insomnia. We require proper sleep for our bodies to work efficiently, and if we become 'imbalanced' internally, it can prevent optimal functionality, therefore possibly preventing conception.
Adrenal Fatigue can also be factored into fertility issues. Adrenal Fatigue is caused by prolonged stress and it causes our Adrenal Glands, which are located above our kidneys, to become depleted. When our Adrenal Glands are depleted, we can experience lower back pain, frequent trips to the bathroom at night, and the inability to deal with stress. You may also find that even after sufficient hours of sleep, you still feel extremely tired. Because the body works as a whole, if one thing becomes off balance it can cause many things to be off balance.
So how can Reiki help with infertility issues?
I have treated several clients who originally came to me for Reiki Energy Healing to relieve stress levels, not infertility. Without my clients sharing the reason for their stress, I could 'feel' their underlying concern. After sharing my intuitive insight with my clients, they were surprised to hear I could sense their emotional despair regarding their infertility issues.
I began to work with my clients to relieve their stress by using the natural method of Reiki Energy Healing. After relieving tremendous amounts of stress through Reiki, it put their mind at ease and their body back into balance, which allowed it to function properly. After four sessions, for one of my clients, she was happy to announce that she was pregnant with twins. Her beautiful boys are now healthy and thriving little children.
Reiki helps relive our minds and bodies of the stress we carry. It's the act of going within and addressing our worries, fears and the things we hold onto that no longer serve us. The method of natural Energy Healing, combined with meditation, can have a profound benefit on us spiritually, emotionally, mentally, and physically.
After initially discovering how Reiki was able to help my client conceive, I shared this with other woman who were also having issues with conception. Since then I have helped four women with their infertility issues. I do not have the words to describe how rewarding it is to have been a part of their journeys. Some of these clients were receiving IFV treatments (In Vitro Fertilization), combined with Reiki Sessions. Others were not taking any form medication. In fact, a client who was receiving IVF commented that she was told by her doctor that her egg count and the survival rate of the eggs was much higher than the average woman receiving IVF treatments.
It's amazing how stress and prolonged stress can have such a major impact on our health, however, when you relieve yourself of stress through different healing methods and therapies, it can truly change the health of our over all well-being.
Have you ever heard of people who went on vacation and "miraculously" conceived after having issues for many years? On vacation you are at ease and stress-free. By not trying to control things, everything flows naturally and organically. And we've all met a couple who decided to "stop trying", only to became pregnant once they stopped trying to control the outcome. By letting go, they also released the stress connected to the emotional experience of infertility and the high expectations they placed on themselves and their partners.
While Reiki Energy Healing may not help everyone with infertility issues, it's definitely worth a try. If you are having issues with infertility, please connect with someone who works with Reiki Energy Healing in your area. Get a feel for the person and trust your gut, you never know how it could change your life.

Do you listen to your intuition?
Our intuition acts as our internal guidance system, our source of inner wisdom and insight, and often 'knows' things before our minds do.
That inexplicable sensation we all know could be considered our intuitive operating system. It sends us unconscious messages, often described as gut feelings. Have you ever said, "I should have listened to my gut."? You probably should have, and you probably should more!
Many business leaders and professionals rely on the guidance of their intuition, basing their decisions on how they 'feel' about a situation or circumstance, and do so successfully. How many of us use our intuitive operating system in our day-to-day lives? How would our lives be different if we listened to our intuition more and trusted what we 'feel'?
We often over-analyze situations, looking from a place of logic instead of listening to the messages from our internal guidance system. I believe if we trusted more in our own capabilities and the power we hold within, our lives could be very different.
How does one tap into their intuition and use it at it's full potential? Here are some suggestions.
The next time you have a gut feeling about something, instead of passing it off, listen to it. And if you practice the suggestions above, you may find that you begin to operate more on your intuitive operating system rather than only using logic for every situation. The more you trust your inner wisdom, the more you will find you trust yourself.
“Intuition is a combination of historical (empirical) data, deep and heightened observation, and an ability to cut through the thickness of surface reality. Intuition is like a slow motion machine that captures data instantaneously and hits you like a ton of bricks. Intuition is a knowing, a sensing that is beyond the conscious understanding — a gut feeling. Intuition is not pseudo-science.”
Do people tell you that you're too sensitive, you care too much, or you get hurt too easily?
Sensitive-natured beings are easily affected by the emotions of others and are often referred to as being empaths. An Empath is a person who can consciously and unconsciously tune in to the emotional experience of a person, place or animal. The emotions they experience whether good or bad, can cause these individuals to feel happy and joyful or anxious and unsettled depending on the situation.
When they are around people who aren't being 'authentic,' in nature, empaths can feel uncomfortable and at a loss for words. They often avoid small talk, meaningless conversations and they prefer not to watch movies or T.V. shows that include any kind of violence. They feel physically sick when witnessing abuse to people and animals. They can withdrawal immediately when confronted by someone who is angry or frustrated, and they often take things very personally and hold onto these feelings longer than others finding it difficult to let go.
Sensitive people are very in touch with their feelings and in tune with their bodies. They know when something feels 'off' and they typically only express their emotions with someone if they feel 'safe' and will not share with just anyone. On the other hand, people seem to be drawn to sensitive and empathetic people; they feel an instant sense of safety and trust, and openly share deep emotional traumas they have experienced or are experiencing. You will find complete strangers being drawn to the energy of a empath. I believe it's an unconscious connection and inner knowing that they will understand and listen without judgment.
Because sensitive people have a heightened sense of the energies in their surroundings, many tend to withdrawal in social situations so they are not 'exposed' or called upon. It is easier to hide at the back of the room than it is to be the centre of attention for an empath. Being constantly aware of the emotions and energies of others can cause turmoil and anxiety, which can affect their own state of mind and well-being.
I personally have trouble in crowded locations like the mall or Walmart, as I find myself feeling anxious, unsettled and even dizzy at times. You may find yourself unaffected by some locations, but troubled by others.
There are a few steps you can follow to protect yourself when in social situations or when you are feeling overcome with the emotion:
“An empath is capable of taking on the grief of another in order to lessen their suffering. In order to not be consumed with pain, an empath should have an outlet for that pain lest they lose themselves in feeling for others.”
~ Donna Lynn Hope
Men have feelings, too. It's true, they really do.
Woman are beautiful creatures, often wearing their emotions on their sleeves for the world to see, and they hold no shame or guilt for being vulnerable and free with their feelings.
Many men, on the other hand, have been taught to hide their feelings. They've been told by mentors, friends, fathers, that crying is a sign of weakness.
While it's difficult enough hearing it from other men, some woman carry the same torch - a man should be stone, not soft, not in touch with their feelings.
So, where does that leave men? Severely stressed, tight with tension, and often overcome by anxiety and even depression.
We all know how it feels to have a good cry - it is a cleansing form of release.
If men are conditioned to believe crying is a 'womanly thing,' how do they find release?
Anger, frustration, projection, or they show no emotion at all. And let's be honest, when we encounter someone who doesn't express emotion towards us, either positive or negative, it can frustrate us. We unconsciously feel like they don't care. But, they do usually care, they just don't know how to express their emotions and show vulnerability without feeling like 'less of a man.' It's just not something they were taught.
What if men were encouraged to show their emotions? What if they were told it's okay to be vulnerable and real and cry if they need to? If we gave them 'permission' to express their feelings in a safe space, then perhaps this would relieve the years of stress and tension they've been holding within, and thus prevent future stress by opening doors to a new way of communication.
Some of the most amazing men I know show their sensitive side and are completely comfortable with showing emotion. I know these men to be healthy, strong, compassionate and empathetic human beings. This is often referred to as a man's feminine side.
It should be their natural side.
Many men feel as though they are carrying the weight of the world on their shoulders. Unlike women, however, men don't often talk openly with their friends and family about how they're feeling. They just endure, sometimes enormous amounts of stress without expressing in a healthy way. Or at all. A lot of men feel women can be very critical of them, which makes them not want to open up, and their egos tend to be slightly more stubborn than the average woman's.
It's also important to encourage the men in your life to communicate their feelings so they can then show their son's and daughter's that expressing emotion is completely healthy and welcomed. As children are products of their environment, it's necessary to model this for our next generation.
If you find your partner or loved one is uncomfortable with showing emotion or sharing their feelings, be sure to let them know that you're there to listen...without judgment. Avoid pointing fingers, blaming and becoming defensive when communicating, and instead show compassion, empathy and understanding.
And most importantly, be patience with progress.
Everything takes time, and if you're wanting your partner to feel like he can be more open with you, it will definitely take time and patience.
“That was one of the saddest things about people--their most important thoughts and feelings often went unspoken and barely understood.”
