What do you Love? What fills you with joy and excitement? What makes you lose track of time? What makes you lose track of yourself? What makes your heart sing?
We often find ourselves wondering how we arrived at this place and space in time, wondering who we are and where "we" went. We question where our dreams have gone and how they escaped our hearts without a sound nor trace of the magic we once held so dearly.
It's life. Life gets in the way of our dreams, our desires, and of our truth.
We work away our days, waiting for them to end, only to begin and end again. Each day that falls behind us is yet another day we swim through the rough waters without our dreams in tow; we leave them behind at the shore only to be washed away by the tides and lost among the salty sands.
Is it the roles we take: husband, wife, mother, father? Is it the stress of life that rips our dreams so abruptly from our hearts? Or is it the expectations others place upon our backs that make us put aside what we love? Do we let go of who we are to become what others want us to be?
The importance of doing something you love is as important as the air we breathe. It's a necessity, it's how we thrive, how we feel alive. It literally pours within our cells a feeling of pure bliss and happiness, and it's what makes our heart beat faster when we're engaged in the moments of doing what our soul seeks to fill itself full.
Doing something you love doesn't have to be a career, it doesn't have to take up your whole day if you don't want it to, but it should fit into a part of your day like any other "important" task.
What if you're not passionate about something; how do you find out what moves your heart to joy? You play. You create, invent, be curious, try as many new things as you can. You take ideas and sit with them, and then run with them, as fast as you can. Maybe it's helping others within your community or a friend redecorate their home - if you look long and hard enough, you will find it.
Your dreams and passions lay dormant until you do something to wake them. Sometimes the thing we love is only a song or painting away.
We aren't here to just work our lives away, we are here to enjoy all the gifts we were given and embrace the treasures that were born within us. We're here to bask in the fruits of life before we pack up our souls and leave this life for good.
Take the time to discover, or rediscover what you love. Make it as important to you as the air you breathe because nothing can bring you more happiness then sharing what you love with the world.
"The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams."
I was completely terrified during our plane ride home from Mexico back in March.
We usually fly in the morning, in the daylight, which seems to make my 'flying anxiety' less intense. On this trip, however, we took off in the dark.
As I sat upright in my seat, watching the misty clouds whizz past the windows at great speed, my fears began to take over. My heart started to pound as I looked around frantically in hopes of finding someone else who was sharing my fears so I wouldn't feel so alone. I looked at their faces and their body movements, anything to signify they were afraid like me, but everyone around me was doing their own thing, opening their books, adjusting their pillows and plugging in their headphones.
The plane shook for the first half of the flight. I felt so tense that I wasn't able to sit back in my seat for more than two hours. I felt angry that I put myself in a situation where I didn't have any control, a situation that I perceived as "unsafe." I felt I was risking my own life, and I was mad at myself for doing so.
The thing with fear is that it may not be "real" as some may say but in moments of fear-induced anxiety, it sure as hell feels real. It may not mean its "really" going to happen or become "reality" but those fears, those thoughts, that anxiety, it all feels more real than anything in the world; it's the height of reality for those who suffer with anxiety. It feels so real because all of your senses come alive: you feel, hear and sense everything around you more intensely; even the most normal sounds can become frightening. Your fight or flight response is activated.
Shortly after taking off, a woman sitting in the front seat caught my eye. She was casually talking to her daughter and husband, who sat an isle away, and she did this with such ease that she became my main focus. My partner was listening to music beside me and was almost asleep and I didn't want to disturb him. So I let him be.
I decided I needed to talk to the woman, to ask her questions because I so desperately needed respite. I wanted her to tell me things that would help make me feel safe. I wanted to know I'd be okay and that I wasn't going to die.
I got up from my seat and made my way over to her. I approached her with openness and honesty as I shared with her how terrified I was feeling and that I was hoping she could help me. She told me that she had flown many times throughout her life and that turbulence was completely normal, like bumps in road. All the foreign sounds I was hearing that triggered my adrenaline were typical sounds, and nothing was wrong with the plane. She mildly eased my mind and my fears for those brief moments.
I didn't receive the complete relief I was hoping for from her but looking back I have realized something very profound for me. I realized how courageous being vulnerable truly is. In my moments where I was feeling my weakest, were the same moments I was acting my strongest. I didn't fear her reaction or her rejection and I was not afraid to ask for help from a person whom I've never met before. She was ready and willing to help me in any way she could, and I believe most of us would respond the same way; we would all understand and do our best to help someone in distress, someone in need of emotional relief.
But I don't think we ask for help enough. We often alone endure times of fear, anxiety, depression, heartache and trauma because we're afraid to ask for help. We're afraid to appear 'weak' and we fear being rejected or misunderstood. But there is an undeniable power in vulnerability. It holds a reservoir of courage and strength. I wasn't weak that night, my fears didn't concur my courage, I was brave and bold because I asked for help when I needed it the most. And I truly didn't care how I appeared to others that night, I didn't fear their judgment.
It's okay to not be okay, we need to accept and embrace that we don't have to be perfect and have it all together because nobody has it all together, all the time. If people showed more often all the parts of themselves, especially their "dark parts," we would know we're truly not alone, and maybe it would help us become more understanding and compassionate with ourselves and with our own hearts.
I'm sharing my story in hopes of encouraging others who need help but are afraid to ask or too scared to reach out. Most people don't see vulnerability as weakness, they see it as an opportunity to help others because we've all been who I was in those moments on the plane that night.
It's okay to reach out and to ask for help from others.
It's okay to be brave.
“To share your weakness is to make yourself vulnerable; to make yourself vulnerable is to show your strength.”
I recently had a Reiki treatment with Vanessa Marie Dewsbury, Soul Alive Barrie, and I loved it so much. I have always been drawn to alternative health care techniques, but I had never tried Reiki before. I thoroughly enjoyed the Reiki treatment and the benefits that I felt afterward. If you have been considering Reiki, Vanessa shares with us what you can expect, how Reiki works as well as the kinds of energetic or emotional responses that one may have after a Reiki treatment. Thank you Vanessa for sharing with us!
Reiki is described as “a healing technique based on the principle that the therapist can channel energy into the patient by means of touch, to activate the natural healing processes of the patient’s body and restore physical and emotional well-being.” Can you describe a typical Reiki treatment, how it works and what one can expect from a treatment?
Reiki is a gentle, non-evasive form of healing therapy. A Reiki Practitioner is a channel for the Universal Life Force Energy to flow through into the patient. I hold space for my clients allowing the flow of energy to move through their body bringing balance back to their energy system. During a session clients are laying down on a massage table while powerful music plays as they go into a nice meditative state, sessions are generally an hour long. Clients can expect at the very least to be left feeling very relaxed however most often people experience visions, sensations through their body and it feels as though a heavy weight has been lifted as a release of stress and emotions take place during a session.
Can you tell me about your journey to becoming a Reiki Master, and how you realized that this was your path? How did you first realize that you had this gift of being a spiritual healer?
I went through several years of health issues and I was always drawn to natural healing methods. It wasn’t until my partner asked me how I always knew where he was experiencing pain when I placed my hands on his back that I started to look into “healing hands.” I posted about it on Facebook and I was told it was called Reiki. So, from there I researched, booked a Reiki Training course and three years later, here I am having treated well over 300 clients.
I recently had the opportunity to have a Reiki Session with you and I have to tell you that it was a wonderful experience. From the moment that I walked into your treatment space, I immediately felt welcomed and relaxed. It was like I could feel the calming energy of the room. Do you consciously decorate or place significant objects in your treatment room that would have an impact on the energy of the space?
That’s so wonderful to hear you felt that way Jen! Yes I definitely create spaces with intention. I do this by going within myself and feeling how I would feel in the space around me. I like things to look clean and organized as I feel a cluttered space can cause a cluttered mind, so it’s important to me that I provide a clean, joyful and calm space for others to enter into. I have had young children just step foot in my house and they comment on how much they like our home without actually seeing most of it. I place crystals and Buddha’s in most of the rooms so that always brings a feeling of calm and serenity.
At the beginning of our session, you performed a smudging to cleanse the energy of the room. Can you tell me the significance of this technique and how it works?
I use beautiful White Sage to cleanse the space before and after a client has visited my treatment room. Sage is known to attach itself to lower/negative energy of a room, object or person and the smoke carries the lower energy away and sends it back up to the Universe. The smell of White Sage also brings an instant calm to the space and has the ability to relax a client right away.
After my Reiki session with you, I felt extremely light in the sense that I didn’t have any tension in my body, and my mind was cleared of clutter and I was simply present and content. Can you tell us about how Reiki can positively impact both physical and emotional healing?
We tend to carry excessive amounts of stress with us from the past and from our present life situations and we live mostly in my minds and often neglect the importance of the Mind, Body and Spirit/Soul Connection. When we overuse or “abuse” our minds, our bodies start to send us messages that it needs our attention too. This comes in the form of physical pain, illness, dis-ease (your body not at ease with itself) as well as anxiety, depression and constant stress overload which can eventually affect our organs and we need those working at optimal performance. Stress can also have a very profound impact on a woman’s ability to become pregnant. Because stress affects our Cortisol Level and Hormones, it can put our system out of balance. I have successfully treated five women thus far who have come for Reiki sessions in hopes of Reiki helping them with infertility and all of them conceived and a few of them have already birthed their children. Some were also on IVF treatments and others simply were only using Reiki. It’s pretty amazing. If you can visualize a beautiful and powerful abundance of white light flowing through your body and clearing away things that no longer serve you purpose, that is what Reiki does. It clears away lower and negative energy that is stored in our energy system.
People often have varying emotional or energetic responses to Reiki treatment, which can also include seeing visions. Recently you shared on your Facebook Page, Soul Alive Barrie, that several clients had described seeing a single eye during their treatment. Can you share with us what one can expect to feel after a Reiki treatment, the types of emotional responses or visions that can occur? What is the significance of seeing a single eye?
Yes, the Third Eye vision is pretty interesting! I’ve had several more clients see a single eye since I mentioned that. When treating a client I work on the Third Eye Chakra which is located in the centre of the brows and is purple in colour which is why that most clients see the colour purple when I’m working on that area. It is connected to perception, intuition, knowledge and mental organization. I believe that clients are seeing the single eye because I’m setting the intention of activating their Third Eye and enhancing their intuition. The visions people see are very random and they literally pass by you very quickly at times and soon enough another “random” and odd vision pops up, it’s almost like you’re just laying there watching a movie but you’re not understanding the significance of it. It’s kind of like when you have a dream and certain parts of the dream symbolize something else so I believe that the visions people see are symbols of stored emotions being released. Some people do see visions that bring them great clarity and they can connect it with a current of past situation. I also see people who have passed away and who are alive, I can describe them right down to the suspenders and types of shirts they always wore to the pretty tea cups Grandma liked to collect. I believe I am tapping into their energy and I can become so connected that I can see loved ones as well as past events that may have been traumatic for them because the energy of the emotion is still very present in the energy system and has not yet been released or dealt with.
I am very inspired by the content, inspirational quotes and personal insights that you share on your blog and social media. You have a very positive message of healing, self-care, and personal growth. What inspires you to share your story, your insight and positive messages of growth with the world? Can you tell us about the book that you are writing?
I choose to wear my soul on my sleeve so to speak because I believe that we are here to be of service to others. To inspire, motivate and help others on their healing journeys. My passion truly is my purpose. My intention is to help bring joy and Love into the lives of others. I am writing a book which I plan to release in October 2017. Currently, it’s called “Magic, Miracles & Manifesting” Affirmations and Words Of Empowerment for Personal Growth, Relationships, and Business. The name could change when I finish however I am partial to the name at this stage of my book. Affirmations were life changing for me, rewiring my unconscious mind and “reprogramming” it with positive words made my self-esteem and confidence go from about 4 to a 9, there is always room for improvement! I wanted to write a book sharing my words of inspiration as well as Affirmations to help others re-wire their past unconscious conditioning and to help change how they view themselves and even others by dissolving limited beliefs. I am also a huge believer in the Law of Attraction and I have manifested a life that I love, I share insight in my book on how others can manifest happiness, joy, and success into their lives so that they can live their best life. Change your thoughts, change your life!
I recently had the pleasure of joining you in your first group meditation that was held early this summer at Sunnidale Park. It was a lovely experience. How can group meditation affect one’s personal meditation practices, and how is it different than solo meditation? Will you be offering more group meditation?
Meditation definitely helped change my life. I wanted to provide an opportunity for people who were interested or curious about Mediation to experience it in a group setting with other like-minded people who choose to live a positive life or who are on a journey of seeking a more balanced, mindful and peaceful life. Group Meditation can be powerful like anything in large numbers can be. Sitting in a space with people of like intention and connecting with them, and their energy can be very powerful as you become One in that moment of unison and connectedness. It’s beautiful. Solo Meditation is just, well amazing! I listen to Meditation every single day, it helps begin my morning and taper off my day as I drift off to sleep.
Can you share with us how one can learn the practices of Reiki natural healing techniques? Do you offer Reiki Training and Certification?
Anyone can learn Reiki, as we all have the ability to heal ourselves and assist others in their healing. I don’t view myself as a healer however, I see myself as a helper of healing. A person has to have a desire to heal themselves otherwise their mind won’t allow them to be healed. I’m a facilitator of helping bring change in others. I do offer Reiki Training and Certification and I have an upcoming course coming this September 24th. Details for that can be found HERE.

Celebrate the Art of Life
Follow the pull of your heart. Avoid if you can the need to push that which resists.
How can you tell when something is destined to be? You feel an internal pull, an excitement, it motivates and inspires you. You yearn to seek more and when you follow the pull, it becomes effortless and graceful. You approach it with sheer joy and curiosity. It just feels right.
When you are pushing, you feel resistance. You lack the energy but still muster up strength to try to put the circle through the square. It can feel forced, draining, time consuming, and it almost feels in vain. When you push, you push against the grain, hence the resistance and hesitation you know your heart feels, but your mind sometimes denies.
We do this in relationships, friendships, business, careers and in many aspects of our lives. We try to push to gain control, but truthfully, what isn't meant to be, isn't meant to be.
The need to control can stem from fear. Perhaps you felt you had no control in your childhood or in your past relationships so you consciously and unconsciously decided that in order for things to work the exact way you want them too, and in order to avoid ever experincing pain or failure, you try to control. Truthfully however, we can't avoid pain, it's actually needed for our soul development and the more we try to control what is out of our hands, the more frustration, disappointment and anger we experience. When we resist what persists, we can potentially miss an opportunity for growth and change and it's going against the natural flow of the Universe.
It's important to follow the pull of your heart, to allow it to lead you to where it needs to go. When we surrender to what is, instead of focusing on what isn't, we begin to align ourselves with our journeys truth. When you follow the pull, and allow the flow to engulf you, the magic begins to happen.
How do you surrender to what is? By accepting the moment as it is. We learn to surrender by trusting the moments we can't control and by breathing into the moments when we feel helpless and hopeless. Trust and belief will be your biggest savor, the affirmation, I trust in the moments I can't control, can send a message of reassurance to your internal self which can help you in moments of panic or anxiety. Meditations can also help with this process and meditation can be truly life changing.
Releasing control will bring you closer to your higher self, the house of your intuition, the self that wants to help guide you and wants the best for you. When you let go of the attachment to the outcome, you won't experience disappointment. Be okay with the fact that not everything will go the way you planned it too, and not everything is supposed too. Think of all the things you tried to control in the past and how you're probably better off that most of it didn't work out the way you intended it to. Life certainly has it's own agenda!
Believe that everything is created for your highest good and to serve you purpose in some way, trust that all will be okay, even when it's not, in the moment.
"Fall into the ocean of the pull, be taken by the waves of the flow, cease to swim the other way. It's much easier to allow, than to control.
The flow beholds freedom, a peace of mind, and a sweet joy of life."
Vanessa Marie Dewsbury
Being a sensitive person can have a strong effect on your emotional, mental, physical and spiritual health.
There are some people who are more aware of how they feel energetically when around certain people and in certain environments. They can sense unauthentic people and those who are on a lower vibration/frequency and generally these people are referred to as empaths.
There can however be a 'downside' if you are affected by energies, it can make you feel anxious, angry, sad, even depressed after encounters with people including family, friends, co-workers and strangers. You can feel depleted, drained, and worn out and you may want to hibernate and not see anyone for days, however there are ways that you can manage the intensity of the effects that lower energies can have on you.
Three years ago in June 2014 I opened my business Soul Alive Barrie. I was seeing clients weekly and soon found I was left feeling depleted and exhausted after sessions. I was taking on the emotional and physical pain they were carrying with them in their energy field. I experienced this for quite awhile until I came to a realization. I am a strong believer that our reality is created based on our personal belief and I had believed wholeheartedly that we can carry the lower energy of others, and that is what I was doing. So I decided to change my belief. Instead I became an "observer" of the different energies I was feeling and not an "absorber" of them. I would feel the sensation of the energy interaction but I wouldn't hold onto it. I stopped believing that I had to carry lower energy of others around with me all the time.
Now when I feel or experience a certain physical pain (during a session) or strong emotions in the presence of others I ask myself, is this mine? And I wait for my body to answer. When I hear 'no' it almost immediately passes. This tool has been very helpful especially on days when I wake up feeling grumpy and my day hasn't even started yet. I ask myself, my body, is this my energy, my emotion and I listen to the response from my body. Using this method can dissipate the energy quite quickly. I have begun to notice that when unfortunate things happen in the world, and we all become aware of it, I can feel very down. I can take on the sadness or anger that is energetically being expressed and emitted by large amounts of people all at once. So again, I recognize that they feelings may not be my own and I release the energy of the emotion.
It can be hard to act as an observer in situations and not be affected by the energies of others, but it can be done. The important thing to remember is the experience of others is not our own, we don't have to carry it with us. It's also important to understand that your perception of someone may be that they are 'negative' however that may not be their own perception hence why they act and behave the way they do, some can't see outside of themselves and lack outer awareness of others, let alone inner awareness of self. So perhaps viewing someone's life or energy as "negative" it should instead be observed without judgment and with understanding that is the life they are choosing to live. It is however your choice whether you want to be a part of that energy frequency or not.
I believe residual energy can be left behind and can 'attach' itself to us but I am now mindful of what I believe and what I choose to take on. Because I am aware of this, I practice various methods to cleanse the energy using White Sage and it really works wonders. You can pick up sage sprays that you can carry with you as well which you can use after unpleasant interactions. I can still feel uneasy in the malls and crowed places, I've just become more mindful of how I want to allow the energies of others to interact with my own and I'm more aware of what I believe and perceive.
It can be hard to live in a world when we are sensitive and caring beings as any sort of violence, hatred or abuse can shatter our souls so it's important as well to be thoughtful of what we expose ourselves to. Violent movies, news, certain media sites etc. should be avoided if we want to remain in balance and in charge of our own energies. Even the relationships and friendships that we enter and engage in should be good for our health in all aspects. If something feels toxic, don't hesitate to set boundaries or walk away from what doesn't feel good. If you experience this with co-workers, perhaps bring a salt rock lamp and essential oils to your work place such as Frankincense, Juniper, Lavender, Palo Santo to help keep any lower energies at bay.
And self-care is crucial. Take time to replenish and revive your soul, spend more time in nature and work on developing self awareness so that you are fully aware of how to control and respond to a situation as oppose to react to one. Once we gain control of our own energies, we can learn how to better respond to the energies of others.
“You will meet many people who try to harm you, pull you down or back stab you. Don’t worry! They can’t really succeed unless you allow them to. Fill your aura with so much love and energy that that it will disallow any efforts to harm you!”

Our Health is our greatest wealth.
If we don’t have our health, what do we have?
I believe that over time many of us inadvertently disconnect from our mind, body, and spirit and, slowly our bodies become unbalanced, stressed, and out of alignment.
The stresses of everyday life piles atop our shoulders and we carry this stress, this weight, wherever we go. We take it to bed with us and wake up tired, depleted, and generally unwell.
When we carry these stresses, we develop dis-ease, meaning our bodies are not at ease with themselves. This causes us health issues, migraines, extreme lack of energy and motivation, anxiety, and even depression. When we don’t release these stresses, they remain in our body, and the energy they create transforms into pain.
Our bodies are always working toward a state of homeostasis, but when we pile stress, unhealthy food or substances such as alcohol, cigarettes, drugs, etc., it becomes overloaded and cannot detox as quick as it would like.
I always refer to the body as a vehicle; we can’t expect a car to run properly and efficiently if we do not maintain it.
Our eating habits are a great place to start. It’s important to be mindful of what we put into our body, unhealthy foods makes us feel, well, unhealthy! It takes loads of energy for our body to process foods that lack nutrition because it takes energy to search for the nutrients and vitamins in which it can’t find; this is why we often feel tired after eating junk food. It’s basically ‘dead food’, making us feel lifeless.
We can also try natural methods such as Reiki Energy Healing. Reiki Energy Healing is a holistic therapy in which a practitioner such as myself aids you in bringing your body back into balance using Universal Life Force Energy. We are made of energy and, as I have mentioned before, there are many stressors that can put our energy out of balance. Through Reiki Energy Healing, your body is given ‘permission’ to relax, release, and revive itself by going into a deep meditative state. During a session, hands are placed at different areas of your body, allowing the energies to interact with each other, resulting in a balancing.
We seldom take the time to stop and just ‘Be’ with ourselves. We seem to forget about the importance of the mind, body, and spirit connection, and how disconnect can cause dis-ease. By going within, we can address and release conscious and unconscious traumas that have been stored energetically in our bodies. When you experience a traumatic situation, the emotion you feel is turned into energy. When we don’t release the energy of the emotion, it becomes stored in our body’s cellular memory; this is when the energy of the emotion can turn into pain because it has nowhere to go. It needs to be released from your energy field, which is why Reiki Energy Healing is extremely beneficial to any healing journey.
Reiki Energy Healing is also very beneficial to woman who are struggling with infertility. I have assisted four woman who have become pregnant after receiving Reiki treatments. They were stressed not only by life, but by the expectations and difficulties of becoming pregnant.

Another helpful method of release is crying. Our tears contain cortisol, the stress hormone, which is why it feels so amazing and calming when we cry. So don’t hesitate to cry when your need to!
It’s important to the health of our well-being to take care of all aspects of our mental, our emotional, our physical, and our spiritual needs. You can envision these four elements as the foundation of your home; if two or more supports are unbalanced or missing, the structure cannot remain standing.
Going within and connecting with self through Reiki/Meditation can be life-changing. It’s taking the path back home and learning to forgive yourself and others. It’s learning to love and accept yourself, and it’s a time to be vulnerable and allow your body to just ‘Be’ in stillness and in peace.
When we surrender to the stresses and provide an outlet for their release, amazing transformation can take place.
“Once you go within, you will never go without.”
"Align your journey with your truth. The road becomes resistant when it’s not aligned with your heart." Soul Alive Barrie
When we aren't following the truth of our hearts, and showing up as our authentic self at its very essence, resistance on our path soon shows up. When we go against what our heart truly desires, inner conflict arises, and discontentment, unhappiness and anxiety reveals its face.
Our truth is our gift. It's the very thing that makes us who we are, but by hiding our truth, we hide parts of ourselves that want to shine and be seen. For the sake of our soul, it's "spiritually important" to acknowledge every part of who we are. Every layer of our being.
When we are doing things that don't make us happy and putting our thoughts and energy into those things, the frequency we put out doesn't align with what we love and what we desire, it doesn't align with our truth and core values.
If we put out this 'unaligned frequency', not only we will vibrate back what we don't love, others will unconsciously feel the inauthentic vibration we are emitting. This is especially important if you are a person of business. If what you are trying to sell, market or manifest is something that doesn't align with your core values and your truth, potential clients will sense from you a lack of genuine enthusiasm and passion. They won't feel the love for what you're doing.
By not aligning our journey with our truth, we often end up in unhappy relationships, friendships that feel toxic and unfulfilling, and jobs and careers we dread going to every day. We remain on this 'resistant path' until our heart and our soul have no other option but to shift into alignment with our truth. While we need all the things that happen "for us" for the purpose of growth and self development, it's not soulfully healthy to remain in situations and environments where our truth is not being heard, seen, and acknowledged.
You can't ignore who you truly are because your truth after all, is You. It's the essence of all the things that were created to make you exactly who you are, in all your grace and glory.
How do we align our journey with our truth?
“To know how to choose a path with heart is to learn how to follow intuitive feeling. Logic can tell you superficially where a path might lead to, but it cannot judge whether your heart will be in it.”
~ Jean Shinoda Bolen
I recently had the pleasure of speaking with the wonderful Jennifer Klementti about her love for Essential Oils, her favorite blends and their many different uses.
What inspired you to enter the world of essential oils Jennifer?
This past summer I decided to enroll with dōTERRA with a kit of the top ten oils and a diffuser. I had already witnessed the incredible impact of On Guard for supporting my immune function, and I was excited to start using the other oils as well. Little did I know then that these beautiful oils would have such a profound impact on my emotional, physical and spiritual health. Within a couple of weeks of using the oils, I knew that I wanted to learn more and that I wanted to share these oils with my family and friends. There are a few oils that had such an immediate impact on my health including Frankincense, Lavender, Deep Blue which is a blend for joint and muscle pain, and Digest Zen which supports digestive health. I was amazed at how quickly the oils worked, and I love that they are so simple to use and I knew that I had to share them. I have always loved essential oils and I have used various oil brands over the past twenty years. I regularly used Rose and Chamomile oil in my skin care routine, Patchouli was a longtime favorite as well. When I experienced the power of Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade oils, I was immediately intrigued and now a bit obsessed about learning all that I can about essential oils.
Does your family use the oils as well?
My husband, my daughter and I use the oils on a daily basis. We have diffusers in our bedrooms and diffuse either a blend of Lavender and Cedarwood or our current favorite Serenity. I made an On Guard roller bottle blend for my daughter so she could easily roll it on her feet in the mornings throughout the fall and winter cold and flu season. It’s important to always dilute essential oils with a carrier oil such as coconut oil, and to follow dilution guidelines based on age. This past school year was the first year that neither of us were sick! Amazing!! We also love to experiment with different diffuser blends in our home as well. So that’s a lot of fun creating our own combinations to diffuse.
Can the oils be used for other purposes then in a diffuser?
The oils can be used aromatically, topically and internally*. I love to have a couple drops of lemon in my water every morning as a refreshing and healthy boost to start my day. In the afternoon, I have a few drops of Slim & Sassy in my water; it's is a metabolic blend to help boost your metabolism and help manage hunger cravings. My husband and I both love to cook, and we use the oils quite often in our cooking. My absolute favorite way to use essential oils is topically. Whenever using essential oils topically, it is always important to follow dilution guidelines. I always have 5-6 different roller bottle blends in my purse at all times. Uplifting blends, blends to alleviate stress and anxiety as well as relaxing and calming blends. My current favorite though, is Whisper which is the blend for women. This oil blend combines with the individual’s chemistry to create a beautiful personal fragrance. I have tested this and it’s true! It definitely smells different on different women. Honestly, sometimes I wonder how I lived before without all these amazing oils, because I use them so much now throughout my daily routine.
*Only use Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade oils internally and follow safety instructions on which oils are safe for internal use. Only use glass or stainless steel. Never use a plastic glass or water bottle
What is your favorite oil and why?
This is a tough question. I have many oils that I absolutely love! I would have to say that my favorite oil is Frankincense. Frankincense oil is often called the “king of oils”; it promotes feelings of peace and overall wellness. Frankincense has extraordinary health benefits. Frankincense has soothing and beautifying properties on the skin and can help reduce the appearance of imperfections. Frankincense can also help relieve inflammation and pain. I often like to use a combination of Frankincense and Lavender diluted with fractionated coconut oil to sooth a sore back, or my knees after a day of skiing or hiking. At the end of each day, I also put Frankincense and Lavender on the bottom of my feet before bedtime. Frankincense is a very grounding and calming scent, and I find that it helps me to unwind and naturally helps me fall asleep.
My favorite roller blend is 12 drops Frankincense, 8 drops wild orange and 2 drops peppermint. I have given this roller blend recipe to pretty much everyone I know! Frankincense, the oil of truth, has profound psychological and spiritual benefits, long recognized by religious and spiritual traditions*. Frankincense can help access a deeper level of insight and creativity. Wild Orange, the oil of abundance, can foster creativity and support a positive mood*. Peppermint, the oil of a buoyant heart, brings joy to the heart and soul and invigorates the body, mind and spirit.*

Can the oils be used for certain health ailments as well?
Essential oils can be used as a natural support for many health ailments. We use essential oils to support our overall health and wellness. Oregano, On Guard, Easy Air which is a respiratory blend are all great oils to support your health when under the weather with a cold or flu. Essential oils can also help naturally support a variety of common health ailments. I always refer to my resource books, Modern Essentials and The Essential Life, to research what oils are best for which ailments and how to use them.
Do you find the oils have had an effect not only your health but your lifestyle as well?
Definitely! Since I started using essential oils, I have seen a profound effect on my health and also my lifestyle. For many years I have strived to live an environmentally friendly lifestyle also choosing local and organic when it is available and in my price range. We have replaced all of the commercial cleaners in our home with our own DIY homemade all natural cleaners using essential oils. Even though I was buying the “Green” and “Natural” household cleaners, when I make my own at home, I know exactly what the ingredients are. This is so simple, effective and inexpensive. I also use many of the dōTERRA natural spa and personal care products because I know that they are not filled with toxic chemicals that are found in most commercial personal care products that are available today. This is highly important to me, and has been for many years. I have used vegan organic skin care for over 10 years. Our skin is our largest organ; and there’s lots of information available today about the toxic chemicals are in many personal care products. My best advice is to do your research. The other ways that the oils impact my lifestyle, is that I am in love with how the oils can impact mood and emotions. This is something that truly fascinates me and that I am keenly interested in learning more about essential oils and memory, emotions and spirituality.
If you were to give one "oil tip" and a few words of inspiration, what would they be?
My best oil tip is to find your tribe. When you enroll with a wellness advocate you will be joining a community of essential oil users. A great wellness advocate will offer continuing support and education to help you safely learn how to use your essential oils. I also highly recommend investing in a good resource book such as Modern Essentials, The Essential Life and for those interested in learning about essential oils and emotions I recommend Emotions and Essential Oils, A Modern Resource for Healing. Having a great book as a resource is a definite must for anyone looking to incorporate essential oils into their daily self-care routine.
Let's talk a bit about you Jennifer. I see your inspirational and positive posts and I love it. So tell me...what is your why? What gets you jumping out of bed every day?
Thank you Vanessa! I am a creative entrepreneur. An artist at heart. I love creating and sharing content on my social media and my blog. I thrive on being creative every single day. I also love helping people find natural solutions to support their health. If I can help people make small changes in their self care routine that will make big changes in their physical, emotional, spiritual and even financial health, this is what gets me out of bed everyday. Truly, I want to be able to give back in a meaningful way.

Are you annoyed by the influx of direct sales people who seem to have surfaced within the last several years?
If so, why is that?
I'm not a direct sales representative, but I do respect their pursuit. Being self-employed and owning two successful businesses myself, I respect those who are trying to achieve the pleasures that sweet freedom brings. I admire those who have the courage to take the risk all in hopes of the gain. They are tired of working for someone else, they crave independence, and most importantly, they want to be home with their families; who wouldn't want to work from the comfort of their own home with endless cups of coffee at arms reach?
I'm going to share a different perspective that may change how you view direct sales companies.
By bringing the experience to your doorstep and offering products that can't be found anywhere else, the more than 10,000 direct sales companies worldwide remove the task of having to leave your home to shop. Many direct sales representatives are knowledgeable about the products they sell and have invested their time, money and energy to add value to the services they're providing their customers.
So perhaps instead of having an emotional attachment and being triggered by what you see or hear from direct sales reps, try listening and observing without judgement; it doesn't have to be viewed with any 'negative' label or limiting belief. It's a matter of someone working hard on their success in order to make a living on their own terms.
I'm sure you have heard a story or two regarding shady direct sales companies and their practices, but the same can be said in regards to other so-called reputable businesses or companies. Unfortunately, it's a fact of life.
Everyone is as busy as they want to be when it comes to their success, and a career in direct sales is an opportunity for those who want to work from home and be there for their families. The details and job description may be different than yours, but the intention is the same. To make a living and to be happy while doing so.
"Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work."
~ Thomas Edison
Many direct sales reps have reported an increase in their self esteem and self confidence, and have seen improvement in their professional and sales skills. It is also a huge bonus that their lives become more flexible by having the ability to set their own schedule.
Now what can be a bit of an annoyance is those Facebook friend requests with an instant invite or add to a group. Most people I have talked to about this appreciate a friendly message first to ask the person about themselves and their business. It's important to build relationships and connect with people on a personal level, in any business, rather than sending an immediate 'cold' invite asking you to "like" a business page when you may not know anything about the company. So reaching out to people is the best and most effective way to connect with others.
At the end of the day, we all pretty much live in survival mode, trying to provide for our families and striving to make ends meet in a way that is most pleasurable and beneficial to our mental, emotional, physical and spiritual health.
We are all doing our best with what we know, and we're doing what we do best.
So be mindful of being triggered by all the direct sales people you meet or the posts you see; your reaction is always a reflection of your inner world. If something effects your energy, there might be something below the surface that needs to be addressed.
Remaining as an observer in the game of life will bring you inner freedom and peace. Observe without judgment and keep your focus on creating your own happiness and success.
"What we really want to do is what we are really meant to do. When we do what we are meant to do, money comes to us, doors open for us, we feel useful, and the work we do feels like play to us."
~ Julia Cameron
The body is a complex system far beyond our understanding.
Designed to beautifully repair and heal and to feel and express, it is the perfect balance of outward and inner healing, expression, and growth and yet we can get caught perceiving the body with simplicity and tunnel vision at times.
Humans are able to acknowledge that animals are energy beings, picking up on the energy of their herd and yet so often we do not perceive ourselves as energy beings to its full depth. We may be able to recognize sensing when someone is having a bad day, but we write it off as reading his or her body language or tone of voice. All surface type observations, but the truth is you were picking up on their energy. In fact if you were in tune coming into the room, you likely picked up on it before they even said a word.
Consider, where do these energies go? Are they held anywhere? Are they floating around us, within us? Our lack of understanding and lack of inquisition leaves us hovering on the surface; it is with inquisition that we achieve depth of understanding, which can lead to depth of healing.
It is my hope to introduce a deeper connection and understanding between you and your body’s abilities. It is then that we reach the foundation of the body and soul, where full body healing can take place.
Healing from the inside out
I often get asked, “Why can’t I heal.”
I believe with all of my heart that anyone can heal, when they are ready. The most unaddressed and neglected part of healing is the healing of our emotional wounds.
The number one debate that occurs at the beginning of exploring my client’s symptoms and their emotional triggers is what came first, the chicken or the egg? The truth is, everyone’s story is different, but here is what I do know, everything is cause and effect. In other words, if you cannot sleep at night, there is no such thing as “I just can’t sleep”; we need to connect with the body and go a little bit deeper. There is either an emotional or physical imbalance and there is no supplement or pharmaceutical that can cure “I just can’t sleep.” You deserve more self-connection, self-love and self-analysis than that.
An example of this is I had a client come to me who was suffering from Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Fibromyalgia. She was a perfect example of doing all the 'right' things and not seeing progress. Taking all the supplements and eating the cleanest and greenest of foods was providing only some relief.
As we dove in deeper in session one week, we uncovered that in her past marriage her husband would wake her in the night, was physically and sexually abusive and if she did not co-operate, he would abuse their children. Studies are now showing that memories can be held within the nucleus of the cell. In my client’s case, interestingly her pains radiated only through her pubic bone and legs. Cellular memories of physical abuse were now manifesting themselves and became a contributing factor to her Fibromyalgia pain. We also discovered that she wasn’t sleeping at night because she had been programmed in the unconscious mind that it was unsafe, leaving her sleepless, weak and in a state of chronic fatigue.
This greatly changed our healing program for her and we went on to focus on healing these deep wounds, developing practices and creating environments where safety was felt in conjunction with supporting the physical body in healing.
The point is we have to address the physical and emotional bodies in order to heal. Focusing on the chicken or the egg coming first is simply a distraction by the protective ego from doing the work that needs to be done.
Understanding our symptoms
The symptoms of our body are often looked upon as the enemy, or are quickly dismissed, as “ah, it’s just my old body.” The truth is these are little messengers coming from the body expressing an imbalance and are an invitation to rise to the occasion to support your body in healing. The trouble is society has trained us to believe that symptoms are “normal”, aging isn’t supposed to be pretty or pain free and there is nothing you can do about it, not true.
The language of our body feels complex, it feels confusing and we often don’t feel qualified enough to figure it out, but there is no better person in the driver’s seat than you. No one can feel, hear or see your symptoms more clearly than you. The trick is to seek out guidance, listen closer and be willing to uncover the messages from your body.
A fabulous book that I draw on daily in my practice is “Messages From The Body” by Michael J. Lincoln. This fabulous book dives into the emotional connection behind your physical ailment. It is the most specific and accurate book I have found to date. As an example you could look up “left lower back pain”, most books of this nature would only indicate “back pain”.
In my practice I teach my clients how to love and trust their guts by healing digestive and emotional imbalances. Below are small excerpts as seen in the book of some of the top physical symptoms I see and their underlying emotional connection from the book by Michael J. Lincoln.
Something in their current situation is generating a gripping fear and as yet undigested ideas, along with a sense of responsibility-overload and the associated resentment…”
“Holding on.” They are not letting go of something or someone, out of resistance to changes. They are hanging on to the past for fear that if they let go, something awful will happen. They feel like they are carrying a heavy load on their shoulders, an overload of responsibility. They want to share the load, but they are afraid to ask…”
“No Dumping.” They have a fear of letting go of the past. They have a rigid, cautious and controlling approach to life, in which they are deeply afraid to let go of.
“Control freak.” They are hell bent to stay in control of every situation they encounter. “They are totally resistant to any form of delegation or release of the throttle in any situation.”
There are times where the emotional connection doesn’t resonate, and that is just fine, but we have to explore and consider all contributing factors.
Another book I draw on is Constant Cravings by Doreen Virtue. A delightful read with insights into the emotional connection behind cravings for certain foods. Let’s explore a few:
Toast with peanut butter
“Tired of not having enough fun. Fed-up with always putting self last.”
Chips: (potato or corn)
“You feel stressed or anxious, and you want to ease your worry. Also, a desire for validation.”
“Energy drain from engaging in activities that are meaningless or intimidating to you. Burnout, resentment, or disappointment with your job.”
These are also complimented with affirmations to help redirect the wandering mind.
While there can be emotional connections behind our cravings, there can also be a physical nutrient deficiency causing the body to crave certain foods. Chocolate for instance is a source of magnesium. According to Health Canada over 40% of Canadians are under consuming their magnesium and the number continues to rise. A chocolate craving can indicate that the body is requiring more magnesium. Refer to this chart to bring clarity to your cravings.
Reintegration of self
The symptoms of our body are truly the key to deeper connection within ourselves. Receiving these symptoms as messages from the body with gratitude changes our relationship with our bodies drastically. You create a sense of whole, as you re-integrate the pieces of yourself that have been ignored or forgotten. A sense of deep connection is established that allows you to leave the powerless victim state, stepping into the empowered soul that you are.
It is time that we rally with our bodies, hear, acknowledge and take action to heal from the inside out. We can do this by addressing the whole and listening to the messages from our bodies.
